Raken
Raken appear quite awkward on the ground, with an intelligence roughly equal to that of a horse. Raken are omnivores, though apparently are quite happy with a diet consisting only of plants. While they might appear to be quite awkward while on the ground, all awkwardness disappears when its leathery, bat-like wings launch it into flight. The raken are agile fliers, using their tails for balance and control. They are able to fly at roughly three to four times the speed of a horse over short distances, but can fly much longer distances at slower speeds. Maximum range for a raken is four hundred miles. Raken are used primarily for scouting and gathering intelligence. Typically, two morat’raken ride at a time, as two sets of eyes are much better at gathering information from the air. When great speed is essential, though, a single morat’raken is more common. Morat’raken are typically women, or smaller than average men. Raken are most likely related to the larger to’raken, resembling them in both structure and intelligence.
