Quote of the Moment

-introduction to The Eye of the World, in Swedish

Healing

Many folk believe that Aes Sedai are capable of anything with the One Power, even raising the dead. This is not true - Aes Sedai cannot raise the dead. But it is the nearly legendary Talent of some Aes Sedai for Healing which has certainly led to this misperception.

Current Aes Sedai who show a strong Talent for Healing choose the Yellow Ajah. Broken bones can be fixed in a matter of moments, and even major wounds can be mended with barely a scar. A good deal of the strength for Healing, though, comes from the one being Healed. Those who have been Healed of a major injury often must spend a day or two resting in bed.

But the Aes Sedai of today are in no way as talented as those of the Age of Legends. These Aes Sedai were known as Restorers, and greatly respected. During this wondrous Age people only died of old age, or of injuries when an Aes Sedai could not be reached.

But the Restorers were not omnipotent. Some things were beyond the reach of even these talented men and women. They could not Heal someone who had been severed from the True Source. The method of this cure has been achieved in the current Age, though, as Nynaeve al’Meara has successfully Healed three people who were severed - Siuan Sanche, Leane Sharif, and Logain Ablar.
