Gawyn Trakand

Gawyn Trakand, prince of Andor, will be the First Prince of the Sword when his sister Elayne Trakand takes the throne. Like all princes of Andor, he was sent to the White Tower to train under the Warders. Here he learned the use of the sword and military tactics.

Gawyn holds his half-brother Galad Damodred in high esteem. Galad saved Gawyn’s life when they were younger, and Gawyn will not speak his interest in any woman that Galad might also be interested in. This naturally caused some initial difficulties, as Galad and Gawyn were both interested in Egwene al’Vere. Eventually, though, Egwene made her feelings for Gawyn known, though they have had little time to enjoy their relationship.

Gawyn stood for the Tower Aes Sedai when the Tower split and the old Amyrlin Seat was deposed. He led a group of those training under the Warders, calling themselves the Younglings. The Younglings supported Elaida a’Roihan in the removal of Siuan Sanche as the Amrylin Seat.

Gawyn has heard the rumors that Rand al’Thor killed his mother. He believes them, and blames Rand for his mother’s death. A confrontation between Rand and Gawyn would certainly cause Egwene a great deal of discomfort.

It is unclear what the future holds for Gawyn Trakand. He is a talented and handsome young man. And he is in love with the woman who leads the Aes Sedai he helped remove from the White Tower.
