The Forsaken

The Forsaken is the name commonly given to the thirteen most powerful Aes Sedai who turned to the Shadow. Among themselves they were known as "Those Chosen to Rule the World Forever" or simply "The Chosen."

Not a great deal is known about any of the Forsaken. One thing that is very clear, however, is that the Forsaken schemed against each other as much as against the forces which opposed the Dark One. Each one of the Forsaken strove to be named Nae’blis, a goal which each desired since turning to the Shadow. To be named Nae’blis was to be the Great Lord’s Regent on Earth. The person named Nae’blis would be only a step below the Dark One himself, ruling over all else.

Other Aes Sedai joined the Shadow during the War of Power, some nearly as powerful as the Forsaken. However, by the end of the war, none of these Aes Sedai were still alive; no records show any of them having been killed by the enemy.

All of the Forsaken, with the apparent exception of Ishamael, were completely trapped inside the Dark One’s prison when the Bore was sealed. The other Forsaken trapped in the Bore were Demandred, Aginor, Balthamel, Asmodean, Sammael, Rahvin, Be’lal, Lanfear, Mesaana, Graendal, Semirhage, and Moghedien.

Since being released from the Bore, the Forsaken have attempted to establish themselves in positions which will be beneficial for both themselves and the Great Lord of the Dark. Several Forsaken have been killed since their release. The Lord of the Grave has resurrected two of these, and they now go by the names Osan’gar and Aran’gar.
