Faile Bashere

Faile is the name taken by Zarine Bashere, a fierce noblewoman from Saldaea. Zarine is a name suited more to a woman who spends her days relaxing, a name certainly not suited to this Borderlander. When she left her homeland to chase fame as a Hunter of the Horn, she chose as her name Faile, or "falcon" in the Old Tongue.

In her journeys, Faile fell in with Perrin Aybara, a simple blacksmith from the far west of Andor. At first she did not understand why such a man would be traveling with Aes Sedai and Ogier. She soon learned that he was ta’veren, though, and his close friend Rand al’Thor was the Dragon Reborn.

Initially she told Perrin that she was the daughter of a rich merchant but the truth eventually came out. Her father, Davram Bashere, is the Captain of the Saldaean army. Faile herself is a cousin of the queen.

Perrin and Faile grew close, and eventually were married. She is fiercely protective of Perrin, as well as jealous. She nearly came to blows with Berelain, the First of Mayene, over her blacksmith.

Faile also helped Perrin in the defense of Emond’s Field, his boyhood home. The two now rule the area around the Two Rivers as Lord and Lady. Faile tries to help Perrin realize what it means to be a lord, as he is still uncertain and uncomfortable about his new position.

Faile is a strong woman who is a great help to Perrin in his duties serving the Light.
