Cuendillar

One of the most wondrous accomplishments of the ancient Aes Sedai was the creation of cuendillar. Heartstone, as it was also known, was the hardest material known.

It was created by Aes Sedai using the One Power. As such, it was only used for the most important purposes. Cuendillar could not be destroyed by any means, even by use of the One Power. Any force directed against heartstone only served to make it stronger.

While cuendillar is indestructible, very little of this precious material remains in the present day. Many artifacts made of cuendillar have certainly been lost, never to be recovered. Those still in existence are worth a great deal. Even the richest would beggar themselves trying to build a sizable collection.

The seals to the Dark One’s prison were made of cuendillar. It was thought that these seals would last forever, as nothing known could even chip something made of heartstone.

Unknown to most, though, the seals to the Dark One’s prison are in fact failing. Several have already been broken. Others could be destroyed with a single blow from a hammer. It is unclear why these cuendillar seals are breaking, but it does not bode well for those of the current Age.
