Quote of the Moment
The Oaths hold us together, a stated set of beliefs that bind us all, a single thread running through every sister, living or dead, back to the first to lay her hands on the Oath Rod. They are what make us Aes Sedai, not saidar.

The Black Ajah

Aes Sedai are well known for their reserved nature and self control. But suggesting the existence of the Black Ajah to an Aes Sedai, though, has always been a way to elicit a response.

Rumors about the Black Ajah have always plagued the White Tower, rumors the Tower has always denied. The Aes Sedai maintained that there was no secret eighth Ajah dedicated to the service of the Dark One.

Recent events, though, have proven this is not the case. None other than Aes Sedai know it, but thirteen Aes Sedai have revealed themselves as Black. They attempted to break into the vaults deep within the tower where the angreal, sa’angreal, and ter’angreal are stored. They were able to steal numerous ter’angreal, but were prevented from obtaining any angreal and sa’angreal. Aes Sedai and Warders, in addition to numerous servants, were killed in an effort to hide their escape.

It is unknown what exactly some of the ter’angreal these women stole were designed to do. One of these ter’angreal is very dangerous, as it allows a channeler to create balefire. Several of them involve sleep in one way or another. Possibly they enable the Black Ajah access to Tel’aran’rhiod.

Currently the head of the Black Ajah, known only to those Sisters who are Black, is Alviarin Freidhen. Alviarin was named head of the Black Ajah by Ishamael himself.

Aes Sedai in service of the Dark One are dangerous enough, but it has become clear that these Aes Sedai are no longer bound by the Three Oaths. These women are capable of telling a lie, and can utilize the One Power as a weapon.

Numerous Sisters have revealed themselves as members of the Black Ajah. Aside from their leader Alviarin, these women are Rianna Andomeran, Jioya Byir, Jeaine Caide, Chesmal Emry, Marillin Gemalphin, Eldrith Jhondar, Liandrin, Amico Nagoyin, Asne Zeramene.
