Aes Sedai Talents
Some Aes Sedai display particular Talents with the One Power, though these Talents have nothing to do with a sister’s strength in the Power. Some Talents are fairly common, while others are rare. The most common Talent by far is Healing. This Talent is so common that an entire Ajah, the Yellow, is dedicated to finding new methods of using the One Power to restore health. One of the rarest Talents is Foretelling. Sisters with this ability are able to foretell future events in a general manner. When something is Foretold, it will definitely happen. However, the wording of Foretellings is usually vague, requiring much interpretation. One of the current Amyrlins, Elaida a’Roihan, has the Talent of Foretelling. There are several other major Talents which are still seen occasionally. Cloud Dancing is the control of the weather, and Earth Singing is the manipulation of movements in the earth. Many minor Talents are known, but do not have a particular name. One is the ability to see ta’veren, another is the ability to recreate the chance-twisting trait of ta’veren over a small region. Since the Breaking of the World, numerous Talents have been lost, with only a name remaining. Such abilities include Aligning the Matrix, Spinning Earthfire, and Milking Tears. However, several Talents thought lost, have reemerged. One such Talent is Traveling, the ability to move from one place to another instantaneously without crossing the space between. Similar to Traveling, or perhaps a different form of it, is Skimming, the difference being that the travel is not instantaneous. Another Talent not seen for many years is Dreaming. Egwene al’Vere, the Amyrlin Seat of the rebel Aes Sedai, has shown that she is a Dreamer. Dreaming, while it has other aspects, is related to Foretelling as it gives glimpses of possible future events and requires interpretation.
