Quote of the Moment
If you must mount the gallows, give a jest to the crowd, a coin to the hangman, and make the drop with a smile on your lips.

Alviarin Freidhen

Alviarin Freidhen is an Aes Sedai of the White Ajah. Like all Whites, she is known for her cold nature and reliance on logic. She is also an extremely ambitious woman, ruthless in her means.

When the White Tower split, Elaida do Avriny a’Roihan of the Red Ajah was named Amyrlin Seat. But her position, and that of the Reds, was not strong enough in the Tower to choose a Keeper of the Chronicles also of the Red Ajah. So, to solidify her position as Amyrlin, Elaida chose Alviarin as her Keeper.

Alviarin has since become the true power within the White Tower. Elaida does whatever Alviarin demands, and Elaida has come to fear and resent her. It is unlikely that any other in the White Tower realizes this, as Alviarin chooses to exert her influence only when she and Elaida are alone.

Unknown to the Aes Sedai, Alviarin is also Black Ajah. She was named head of the Black Ajah by Ishamael himself, before the seals had weakened enough to allow any of the other Forsaken to escape their imprisonment. With Ishamael’s apparent death, Alviarin now takes her orders from another of the Forsaken, Mesaana.

So as Alviarin leads the White Tower, the world’s most powerful political force is headed by one sworn to the Great Lord of the Dark. What the world sees as the actions of the Amyrlin Seat are actually the will of one of the Forsaken. Until Alviarin is revealed as a member of the Black Ajah, the White Tower will continue to work the will of the Dark One.
