Aviendha

Aviendha of the Bitter Water sept of the Taardad Aiel is a young woman of great importance. She was living happily as a Maiden of the Spear, desiring nothing else of her life.

But that changed when the Aiel Wise Ones decided Aviendha was to begin the training to become a Wise One herself. She was unhappy, as she was forced to give up the spear. Additionally, Aviendha is able to channel the One Power.

It was Aviendha who was charged with teaching Rand al’Thor, the Car’a’carn, about Aiel culture. Rand knew absolutely nothing of the Aiel, and Aviendha was often frustrated with his ignorance. Through their time together, though, they became close. Aviendha and Rand fell in love with each other, a difficult situation. Rand seeks to separate himself from those he feels most strongly about, fearing he will hurt or endanger them.

Aviendha will not have Rand to herself, though. Two other women are fated to love him. One is Elayne Trakand, Aviendha’s near-sister. The other is Elmindreda Farshaw. All three of these young women have apparently accepted their situation, realizing there is little they can do about it.

Aviendha is a tremendously fierce and brave woman, strong in the One Power. She is independent and proud, a woman destined for greatness. Her importance both to the cause of the Light, and Rand al’Thor himself, is evident. Aviendha must be careful, as she has become a likely target for those serving the Shadow.
